My Role

My main responsibility was designing the UX structure and user interface of the browser game.
I worked on:
• Gameplay flow and interaction design
• User journey and level progression
• Interface design
I also contributed to the early concept phase, helping explore how Benny could extend into interactive content and social engagement formats within the digital campaign ecosystem.

Overview

The project started from a simple question: how could a campaign character become part of an interactive digital experience rather than appearing only in advertising?
Benny, the main character of the Hill’s Small & Mini campaign, is a small dog navigating a world that often feels much bigger than him. This idea became the narrative foundation of the experience.
To introduce the story, a short video shows Benny getting distracted while chasing a butterfly and ending up far from home. This moment becomes the starting point of the game.
In Benny’s Big Adventure, players help him navigate different environments, avoid obstacles and collect kibble that increase his energy as he tries to find the way back.
The browser game became the central interactive element of a broader digital concept that also included social video content and engagement formats designed to extend Benny’s personality across digital channels.
My focus throughout the project was ensuring the experience remained clear, intuitive and engaging from a UX perspective.

UX & UI Design

The design of Benny’s Big Adventure focused on creating a browser game that feels intuitive from the first interaction while still offering a sense of progression.
The main UX challenge was balancing simplicity and engagement. The experience needed to be accessible for casual users while still providing a clear objective and a rewarding gameplay structure.
Players guide Benny through obstacles, collect kibble to gain energy, and progress across different environments while trying to find the way back home. Each level introduces new elements that gradually increase the challenge while keeping the interaction clear and easy to follow.

The experience was guided by three key design principles.

  • Immediate understanding
The objective of the game should be clear within seconds, supported by a short narrative setup and minimal instructions.
  • Accessible interaction
Controls and gameplay mechanics remain simple so users can start playing without a learning curve.
  • Progressive challenge
New environments introduce obstacles gradually, keeping the experience engaging while maintaining usability.

From a visual perspective, the interface was designed to support clarity during gameplay. UI elements such as the energy indicator, collectibles and level progression markers remain visible without distracting from the action.
The visual language reflects Benny’s playful personality while maintaining a clean interface that supports quick decision making during the game.
Collectible kibble also serve a dual purpose. They reinforce the gameplay mechanics by increasing energy while subtly integrating the brand within the game environment.

Concept & Creative Direction

The project was built around a character-driven approach.
Benny embodies the “Small but Strong” idea: curious, resilient and slightly dramatic.
Using a character allowed the brand message to shift from informational to emotional.
The visual and gameplay direction was inspired by classic arcade mechanics (simple controls, progressive difficulty and immediate feedback) ensuring accessibility for a broad audience.

Game Design

In the game, Benny must navigate urban environments to return home.
Obstacles reduce energy.
Collecting Small & Mini kibbles acts as a booster, increasing strength and speed.
Each level introduces slightly greater complexity while keeping mechanics familiar.
The brand promise becomes embedded in gameplay logic rather than explicit messaging.
